June/July 2024 - Christmas In July
At Sy Church, we believe that every child deserves to feel seen, valued, and loved, no matter their circumstances. For our June/July 2024 outreach, we hosted a special “Christmas in July” initiative to bless the 184 children currently in the foster care system in Catawba County.
In the month of June, we invited our congregation to take part in this meaningful project by giving out 184 tags—each tag representing a foster child’s age and gender. Our church members eagerly responded, collecting gifts all month long with the goal of brightening each child's day and making sure they knew they were loved and not forgotten.
From toys and clothes to books and personal items, our congregation poured their hearts into picking out thoughtful gifts for every child. The enthusiasm and generosity shown were overwhelming, as each gift symbolized not just a present, but a tangible expression of care and compassion for the children in our community.
In July, we gathered all the collected gifts and delivered them to our local Department of Social Services (DSS) office, where the dedicated social workers took on the important task of distributing the gifts to each child in the foster care system. It was a powerful moment, knowing that these gifts would soon be in the hands of children who might not always have the opportunity to experience the joy of receiving something special just for them.
Our “Christmas in July” outreach was a beautiful example of how a community can come together to make a difference, one child at a time. It reminded us that while we can’t solve every problem, we can share love and hope in ways that truly matter. This outreach wasn’t just about giving gifts—it was about showing each child that they are cared for, cherished, and never alone.
